how do most of you now feel about the military?
by sowhatnow inwas not sure where to post this, but i was curious, how do some of you now feel about the military?
would any of you let your children enlist, or would you yourselves join any military field?
how do you feel about the idea of women in the military?

You're right James Mixon. Any vet who has ever needed medical attention feels a debt to the volunteer nurses who helped them. It was short-sighted of me to fail to mention them.

I'm not trying to offend. Maybe I'm having a mild cognitive deficit this morning... it's early... and I'm old.
But I don't get it... what is that?

LoveUniHateExams confessed, "...I wouldn't enlist - I don't think I'm brave enough."
Don't make the mistake of thinking that everyone who serves is on the front line being RAMBO.
Although everyone does have to pass basic training and learn the fundamentals of war-fighting, think about all the SUPPORT that those guys on the front line need. SOMEBODY has to be "brave enough" to provide that support.
Are you "brave enough" to run around a track? "Brave enough" to do pushups and pullups? "Brave enough" to learn how to shoot? "Brave enough" to continue your education in a way University can't match? "Brave enough" to cook decent meals for your troops? "Brave enough" to repair a broken Humvee? If you are really sharp, you might be "brave enough" to translate enemy communications, or "brave enough" to be a drone operator sitting somewhere in Kansas.
I think you get my point... And in the unlikely (but possible) chance that your support position is overrun and you find the lives of yourself and your buddies at risk, you will find that you ARE "Brave enough"! Your training will kick in and you will fight for the lives of yourself and your team.
Remember that whether you are brave or not, there is an "expiration date" on your life, just as there is on mine. Be "brave enough" to live your life with pride.

War is a terrible thing, but what viable option do freedom-loving men have against an oppressive government?
Years ago, when I was much younger and subject to the draft that could well have put me in Vietnam, I felt differently, having been thoroughly indoctrinated by the free home Bible Studies of the WTB&TS. I was a conscientious objector and earned a 4-D ministerial deferment.
My father and my uncles served in WWII. My dad was in Patton's Army, one Uncle was wounded on Iwo Jima and another was in the Caribbean. Another went around the world with the Navy and was among the first frogmen prepared for the invasion of Japan. Fat Boy saved his life.
Today I deeply regret not having served.
I think this sums up my feelings well:
IT IS THE SOLDIER
It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.
It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

As for women in the military, I can see how in the Air Force they may be able to fly with the best of the guys, but on the ground I think the woman who can really carry her own weight is rare.
Maybe we should see what a female-only division can do.

Quality of JW teaching from elders
by sir82 inthere was a recent thread on the "quality" of converts to jws in recent years.
it wasn't a pretty picture, based on the thread contents.. well, the lack of depth isn't restricted to new converts.. in our clam this week, one of the principal points for review was this:.
ne 1:1; 2:1—why can we conclude that “the 20thyear” mentioned at nehemiah 1:1 and 2:1 is countedfrom the same starting point?

Preaching? For what purpose? All JW's need to ask this question.
by park ave boy inwhat is the purpose of preaching if not for converts?.
basically, preaching by the jw's is to make converts.
this in itself implies that jehovah's witnesses believe that they alone have the only acceptable way to god and that everyone else is just not worthy.

Originally C. T. Russell felt his job was NOT to gain converts, but to gather the "Bride of Christ" out of the churches of Christendom.
I think it soon became apparent that with only 144,000 potential members this was a flawed business model that would not generate the cash-flow that CTR needed to support himself and the boys in his club, but it was Judge Rutherford who really got the Borg's business model going and the two-headed Knorr-Franz beast to fully optimize it.
Right now the Borg is in the process of decay as apostate mycelium works it's way through the memes.

Has a 'Christian' ever murdered somebody?
by goddidit ina jw made the claim "no christian [jw] has ever murdered anyone".. when i showed examples of such, the goalposts moved a bit with "was he a baptized, dedicated witness?".
can anyone provide examples of murders committed by "baptized, dedicated" jws?.
thanks.
